Our Story
From Vision to Action
The Society for Palliative Radiation Oncology (SPRO) was founded by a group of radiation oncologists who saw a critical need: to elevate the role of radiotherapy in relieving symptoms and improving quality of life for patients with advanced cancer. While radiation is widely recognized for its curative potential, its palliative applications are often underutilized, underrepresented in training, and overlooked in policy discussions. SPRO was created to change that. What began as informal conversations among colleagues has grown into a collaborative, international nonprofit committed to advancing education, supporting research, and advocating for equitable access to high-quality palliative radiation care.
